Google Office

I don't think its good news for Redmond based company. But that's Google. There is at least more than one web based office application is available like Writely (The Web Word Processor), and NumSum (Web Spreadsheet). Both are in beta stages. I personally worked on both of them and they have a long way to go. When I heard Google is partnering with Sun to make OpenOffice available online, I was thrilled. Its like if Google is doing something, it must be good. I don't know how long its going to take them to have a beta version out. I am waiting.

I too am excited to see how the Sun/Google endeavor will pan out. They have a tough component however.
The reality isn't so much as which product will be the best, it's all about the marketing. Before IE became the dominant browser Netscape was eons ahead of IE, however in about a year or 2 from its (IE) release it had over takent the browser market. It didn't hurt that it came preinstalled on the windows OS, whereas Netscape had to be downloaded. With this being the case, I still say it was in the way MicroSoft marketed its ultimate vision of the internet.
The battle will be fierce indeed, seeing how Office is it's #1 product and brings in the majority of MicroSoft's revenues.
I personally like Office 2003, because it makes available many opportunities to both end-users and IT departments, especially InfoPath. Office 2003 is integrated with BizTalk 2004.

I personally don't like the idea of internet based office products. Internect enabled (viz. connectivity), sure, that's a given, aside from that, call me old fashion, but I prefer a localized solution.
